Private Residence

Monkeyhouse was brought onto this home renovation after it received a stop work order from the city. The home was left in a mid-construction state as there was an attempt to expand the entryway by adding a roof assembly that was not structurally sound or code compliant. We assessed the home in order to provide a design that took into account the same goals, but with the consideration of the realities of structural and material requirements. The noncompliant work was demolished and the addition was built according to our modified design.

We expedited the completion of the drawings and permitting process for the client so that their home could be returned to them as soon as possible. This small addition to the entryway transformed the living space from both a spatial and lighting standpoint. The space is now a more pragmatic shape, provides a more open space plan, and allows a designated foyer area. The skylight brings direct light into this new corner of the home, brightening up the adjacent sitting area, living room, and kitchen.
